Karen Coplan, Emerging Leader Award
Karen has been involved with our section since 2002. She started on the Next Generation Steering
Committee where her efforts grew the group and our section by bringing in 80 new members. Over the
past three years, Karen has sat on the section Board first as a member-at-large and most recently as a
Director. Her continued leadership is an inspiration to those who work with and know her.

| Carmen Lara, Outstanding Community Service Work
Carmen came to work for our section as Encore and More Store Manager in November of 2006. Pre-
viously, she was the manager of the Evanston Niles section resale shop. Carmen worked diligently there
from 1976 until the store closed in 2006. Carmen is greatly responsible for the continued success of En-
core and More. She is the mother of three grown children. Carmen has lived and worked in Rogers Park
where she has been active in the community, including being involved in CAPS which is a community
policing group and with Senior Citizens of Rogers Park. Carmen has received several community awards
and commendations for her volunteer work.
