NCJW Luggage for Freedom Project (LFF) – make blankets and dignity bags
The goal of LFF is to provide a sense of dignity to women who are staying at and transitioning out of domestic violence and homeless shelters, by giving them a suitcase packed with some personal and household items as well as backpacks filled with books and stuffed animals for children. You can help Luggage for Freedom by making fleece blankets and/or Dignity Bags.
Mother’s Day Initiative – design cards, host a collection
Our Mother’s Day Basket Project supports women and their children who are victims of domestic violence by giving them a very special Mother’s Day. Women staying at several area shelters receive gift bags with many items we take for granted each day: shampoo, conditioner, body soap, lotions, gift certificates, chocolates and other items that would be “luxuries” for them at this time. Funds are raised for the gift supplies by selling Mother’s Day Cards. You can help us by making cards for the project or hosting a collection of the items listed above. If you wish to make cards, you can either email [email protected] to get supplies or just use cardstock folded to equal a 4×6 card.
NCJW Gives Back – collect items
NCJW Gives Back began as a community service initiative of NCJW Chicago North Shore during the COVID-19 pandemic to collect and donate items needed by Chicago and Suburban residents who are especially impacted by the Coronavirus pandemic. NCJW Gives Back will continue beyond the pandemic providing opportunities for volunteers and donations. Visit https://ncjwcns.org/actions/ncjw-gives-back for information about our upcoming activities.
Soup Kitchen – bake and volunteer
NCJW participates in two Evanston Soup Kitchens: Beth Emet Synagogue and First Methodist Church. Volunteers of all ages are needed to shop for ingredients, bake yummy desserts, prepare the meal and serve the meal to area homeless & working poor.
