Dorothy Cohen Fine Arts Initiative
The Dorothy Cohen Fine Arts Initiative provides arts programming for disadvantaged children in Chicago and the Chicagoland area. The program was established in 1996, in memory of Dorothy Cohen, an NCJW member and lover of children and the arts. The mission of the Dorothy Cohen Fine Arts Initiative is to enrich the lives of children with little or no access to arts education by providing opportunities for students to view and participate in the performing and visual arts.
From 1997 – 2002, the Initiative granted funds to a variety of Chicago-area schools and social service agencies. In 2003 the Initiative began offering instructions in art, dance and theater to children from the Highland Park Community Day Care Center and Tri-Con Child Care Center.
