October Issue: Domestic Violence
Our service theme now is Domestic Violence, since October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Coronavirus has significantly restricted peoples’ movement in order to slow the spread of the pandemic. Sadly, domestic violence against women and children has increased as homes and confined living spaces have become less safe. Our goal in October is to provide a little extra comfort for survivors.
Local shelters for victims and survivors of domestic violence
NCJW’s annual “Luggage for Freedom” project collects and donates a variety of items to women and children in local shelters. This year, because of Covid-19, that project is slightly restricted so our NCJW Gives Back group is offering assistance.
Needed: “Dignity Bags” of personal care products.
Collect and assemble any number of bags right in your own home. Make it a family activity! One bag or five, all are appreciated!
Fill a 1-gallon Ziploc baggie with 1 of each of these 8 small or travel-size products:
– Soap – Shampoo – Conditioner – Lotion – Deodorant – Toothbrush – Toothpaste – Dental floss
We will be collecting these bags on October 1, 2, 5, 6, 7 and 8. We will have collection spots in many suburban areas and we hope one will be convenient for you. If you are interested in donating Dignity Bag(s), please supply your name and email address on the form below and the addresses of our drop-off locations will be sent to you via an email.
If it is not possible for you to get to a drop-off location, but still want to donate Dignity Bag(s), please indicate that on the form below or send an email to [email protected] prior to October 1, 2020, and we will connect with you to schedule a pick-up.
The need is great so we really appreciate any number of bags you can donate. No amount is too small or too big.
Our October collection has ended. If you wish to participate in NCJW Gives Back, please visit our November page.
