Mother’s Day Baskets

LET’S MAKE IT A SPECIAL MOTHER’S DAY FOR THE WOMEN AT THE DOWNERS GROVE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SHELTER AND MARY LOU’S PLACE IN EVANSTON

For 125 years, NCJW, Inc has worked to develop and pass effective public policy to address intimate partner violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking to ensure increased emphasis on prevention, accountability for perpetrators, and resources and justice for survivors. Locally, NCJW Chicago North Shore has worked to amplify our national advocacy as well as provide opportunities for community service to help area victims of gender-based violence.

To that end, the NCJW Chicago North Shore Mother’s Day Project specifically supports two area domestic violence shelters – the Downers Grove Domestic Violence Shelter run by the Family Shelter Services of Shore and Mary Lou’s Place run by the YWCA Evanston/North Shore. These Shelters serve women and their children who are victims of domestic violence by providing housing, meals, counseling and other personal essentials. Women are taught job skills and employment before they move into their own apartments. It has become our tradition to show our support for these women who have been threatened by violence and abuse by giving them each, a very special Mother’s Day basket.

The women at the shelters so often arrive with little more than the clothes they are wearing. We will fill Mother’s Day baskets with many items we take for granted each day: shampoo, conditioner, body soap, lotions, gift certificates, chocolates and other items that would be “luxuries” for them at this time.

Help make this a special Mother’s Day for the women at the shelter, and at the same time, honor a special woman in your life.

For each donation of at least $18.00, we will send a Mother’s Day card to your mother, aunt, daughter or anyone else you choose. She will know that in her honor, NCJW delivered baskets and best wishes to the women at the shelter – a double mitzvah. Or, you may wish to send a card in memory of a loved one – and their memory shall be a blessing.

Online and mail-in orders for 2019 Mother’s Day cards have concluded.  Ordering for 2020 will open in early spring.
