Vineyard Christian Church Harvest Food Pantry and Clothes Closet
2495 Howard Street, Evanston

You asked for more opportunities to serve the hungry. You asked for more opportunities to involve your children and other loved ones. You’ve got it!

In addition to our Evanston Soup Kitchen dates, we have added volunteer dates at Vineyard Christian Church Harvest Food Pantry and Clothes Closet to our schedule for 2018 and beyond. For those of you who are unfamiliar, the Harvest Food Pantry of Evanston each week on Wednesdays serves approximately 200 families, providing each with 3-4 grocery bags of fresh produce, meat, dairy and dry goods, including personal care products, usually of their choice. In addition, families may visit the Clothes Closet for needed items, which are provided free of charge. There is room for 10 volunteers. As always, NCJW members will have first priority.

Tasks include:

Set up and take down
Restocking shelves
Packing dry goods
Welcoming families as they arrive
Registering families
Hosting the “swap” table, where guests can swap up to 3 items
Aiding guests in their selections
General crowd flow
Managing store rooms and unpacking donations

Donations are not required, but the food pantry is happy to accept clothing and shelf-stable dry goods that are not expired. NOTE: Organizers point out that dry goods are obtained through the Greater Chicago Food Depository, from which they order pallets at a substantial discount. Therefore, they would prefer monetary donations to the food pantry, should you desire to contribute.
