MLK Jr Day of Service – Drop Off Items for Mother’s Day Bags
January 19, 9:00 am —
January 31, 7:00 pm
Drop off donations in box at Congregation Etz Chaim in Lombard
In conjunction with the Social Action Committee of Congregation Etz Chaim, we will be sponsoring the third annual drop-off event for items that will help us fulfill the needs of women living in two domestic abuse shelters: the Downers Grove Domestic Violence Shelter and Mary Lou’s Place in Evanston.
This long-standing project acknowledges the difficulties that women face in working toward self-reliance and a strong future. These shelters serve women and their children who are survivors of domestic violence by providing housing, meals, counseling, and other personal essentials. These women often come to the shelter with little more than the clothes on their backs and hope for a better future. Each Mother’s Day, the women of NCJW CNS deliver large gift bags to let the women know others care about them and their future. We fill these bags with shampoo, conditioner, body soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste, socks, gift cards, chocolates (because who doesn’t love chocolate), and other items we often take for granted.
Please consider dropping off new full-size bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap, body lotion, deodorant, socks (adult women or children’s sizes), and/or other items that you feel would help us fulfill their needs. There are no brand specific items that we are requesting. Items for children such as new coloring books, crayons, small toys, and dolls as well as items for pre-teen and teen children will be appreciated.
The drop off will take place at Congregation Etz Chaim in Lombard from Sunday, January 19th through the end of the month. Boxes will be in the lobby where items can be placed.
