MLK Day of Service – Lombard – Drop Off Donations

9:00 am — 12:00 pm

Congregation Etz Chaim
1710 South Highland
Lombard, IL 60148

In conjunction with Congregation Etz Chaim’s Social Action Committee, NCJWCNS will be sponsoring the second annual drop-off event for items that will help us fulfill the needs of women living in two domestic survivors shelters: the Downers Grove Domestic Violence Shelter and Mary Lou’s Place in Evanston.

  • Please consider dropping off new full-size bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body wash or hand soap, body lotion, deodorant socks (adult women or children’s sizes), and/or other small items that you feel would help us fulfill their needs.  There are no brand specific items that we are requesting.  Small items children like are coloring books, crayons, small cars, dolls, card games, etc.

This long-standing project acknowledges the difficulties that women/mothers face in working toward self-reliance and a strong future.  These shelters serve women and their children who are survivors of domestic violence by providing housing, meals, counseling, and other personal essentials.

These women often come to the shelter with little more than the clothes on their backs and hope for a better future.  Each Mother’s Day, the women of NCJW Chicago North Shore put together a large gift bag to let the women know others care about them and their future.  We fill these bags with shampoo, conditioner, body soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste, gift cards, chocolates (because who doesn’t love chocolate), and other items we often take for granted, as well as small toys for children.

  • The drop off will take place on Sunday, January 14th from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm.  If you are unable to come at that time, a box will be in the lobby where items can be placed.
