Town Hall: Does My Vote Still Count?

The future of voting and democracy in the United States is a core issue to all of us. We are excited that November’s Spotlight is part of a community partnership in presenting an unforgettable Town Hall. Join us to understand what will happen if The Freedom to Vote Act and The John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act pass or if they don’t. Our panel of experts will also explore how we can strengthen racial justice through voting rights in Illinois, so we all have a voice.

Our Panelists
Dr. Barbara Arnwine, Esq., President and founder to the Transformative Justice Coalition will be the keynote speaker. She will address the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. Her perspective on the current status of each bill will give us a sense of what the future may hold.

Jay Young, Executive Director of Common Cause, has long been involved in the redistricting process in Illinois. He will share his insights with us.

Federique Desrosiers is currently the Policy Organizer at Chicago Votes. Frederique will discuss pressing local issues including the Voting in Prison initiative.

Ami Gandhi is Senior Counsel of Chicago Lawyers for Civil Rights. She will discuss racial equity issues with voting.

Lance Gough, Moderator. Mr. Gough is the former Executive Director of the Chicago Board of Elections, a role in which he served for over 30 years.
