Mother’s Day Project
Because of your incredible generosity over the years, NCJW Chicago North Shore fills Mother’s Day Gift Bags with many items we take for granted each day: shampoo, conditioner, body soap, lotions, gift certificates, chocolates and other items that would be “luxuries” for them at this time. Help make this a special Mother’s Day for the women at the shelter and, at the same time, honor a special woman in your life. We start fundraising for this at the end of March every year.
For each donation of at least $18.00, we will send a Mother’s Day card to your mother, aunt, daughter or anyone else you choose. They will know that in their honor, NCJW delivered gifts and best wishes to the women at the shelter – a double mitzvah. Or, you may wish to send a card in memory of a loved one – and their memory shall be a blessing.
Background: For many years, NCJW members, advocates and volunteers have generously supported our yearly fund-raising project on behalf of the women at Family Shelter Services of DuPage County and Mary Lou’s Place in Evanston. The shelters serve women and their children who are survivors of domestic violence by providing housing, meals, counseling and other personal essentials. Women are taught job skills and employment before they move into their own apartments.
For over 130 years, NCJW has worked to develop and pass effective public policy to address gender-based violence in order to ensure increased emphasis on prevention, accountability, resources, and justice. Locally, NCJW Chicago North Shore has worked to amplify our national advocacy as well as provide opportunities for community service to help care for survivors of gender-based violence. We thank you for your continued support to our community service projects.
